Band Info
Pylon formed in the summer of 1998 in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, UK. Chris, Joe and Bonner all played in the Wakey band Chopper, who released a number of singles and a debut LP on Leeds based Crackle records. Chopper had a certain amount of success in the UK, featuring on a 'Fierce Panda' release alnogside Bis, Magoo and Number One Cup, and also doing well in Japan, touring there twice in the mid nineties. As far as gigs go they played with the likes of NOFX, The Offspring, Lagwagon and even The Wedding Present, shortly before their split in 98 following their 'Last call for the dancers' LP on Crackle. Chris, Joe and Bonner were joined by Paul, who had previously played in bands with chris years before he sold his drumkit for fishing tackle. Early Pylon songs were compared to bands such as The Promise ring and Superchunk, more mid-tempo hardcore pop than the breakneck spreed punk pop of Chopper. Early Pylon gigs included a support slot to Fugazi at Leeds Met, as well as the last ever gig at Players in Wakefield with Milloy and Dugong. The first release 'self-titled'on Subjugation records (home of Spy vs Spy, Month of Birthdays and Bob Tilton, to name a few) got good reviews from within UK punk/Hardcore/Emo circles, and an average one in Kerrang. The band toured the UK with Gameface in the autumn of 2001, as well as regularly playing at venues across the country.

Rob Taylor of Nathaniel Green, joined the band in early 2002 giving Pylon an added layer of melody from his fender rhodes electric piano, and the band soon after recorded their seciond Ep '2400 Volts' this time on Jealous Records (The new Incarnation of Ian Subjugation) before undertaking a two week tour of Europe in April, taking in Holland, Germany, Czech republic and Austria. On return home to UK soil they got all their gear pinched. Thieving Bastards. Against all odds the band seem to have finally found their sound, judging by their new material which is far more dynamic and alluring than before without effecting their ability to create a tune to stick in your head for weeks. Their debut LP will definately be worth waiting for when it eventually comes out, which looks like being at the end of 2003, now that they have all calmed down their crack habits we might see a year of fruition from the Pylon camp.- Nick D
